Arnon Dror | Brewing Rivalry Between Celtics and Sixers

Don’t look now but things just got far more interesting in the East. With the much talked about draft over with, the dust has finally settled, and fans are getting a clearer picture of what’s in store in the Eastern Conference this upcoming season. For hardcore Celtics fan Arnon Dror, the languishing basketball rivalry between Boston and Philadelphia just got injected with life and is one of the things to watch out for.

City Rivalry

At first glance, it may seem like the rivalry between Boston and Philadelphia is forced. However, Arnon Dror points out that one must take a step back and look at the bigger picture to get a better idea of where the rivalry between these two great cities is stemming from. For one, the rivalry goes beyond basketball.

In the NFL, the Philadelphia Eagles shockingly beat the New England Patriots. As such, Boston fans are more than happy to get their revenge no matter what sport it may be. Arnon Dror adds that Philadelphia is presently ranked first in the National League, while Boston is at the top spot in the American League. With that said, there’s a real chance Boston and Philadelphia will battle it out in the World Series. Taking all this together, it’s not hard to see why fans from both sides are building up a rivalry in basketball too. Image Source: Sports Illustrated

It’s high time that Boston gets a real rivalry, says Arnon Dror, and there’s no better time to give birth to one than now with both teams made up of young and talented players. With LeBron James’ departure for the star-studded West, Boston and Philadelphia are likely to clash in the Eastern Conference for years to come.

Boston Celtics vs. Philadelphia76ers

As mentioned, Boston and Philadelphia have in their wings some of the best and most promising rookies in the league right now. In Boston, there’s Jaylen Brown and Jayson Tatum, while in Philadelphia, there’s Ben Simmons and Joel Embiid. Brown and Tatum may have dominated their rookie counterparts last season but that’s just a brief glimpse of these young boys’ full potential. Embiid is being touted as the best center and if he stays healthy, that might just materialize. Simmons, on the other hand, is a phenomenal playmaker, which gives his team a high degree of flexibility to build a team around him. For Arnon Dror, the only icing to the cake is if Philadelphia was able to draft James or another power player, Kawhi Leonard.

Speaking of LeBron James, now that he’s with the Lakers, Boston’s rivalry with Los Angeles is also showing signs of life. Aside from Philadelphia, Los Angeles also has a murky rivalry in the past with Boston. However, if Arnon Dror had to choose between the two, the battle of the young blood in the Eastern Conference is far more exciting. In the end, basketball rivalries may be engineered by the media, another marketing ploy to drum up hype but what’s wrong with that? Arnon Dror says let the games begin.
